Y-Volution YGlider Kids Scooter Review

Gavin turned 3 a few weeks ago. This birthday has been so bittersweet for me. My baby is definitely a little boy who is learning to interact with Elmo on our Sesame Street TV for XBox Kinect, while playing with more difficult toys and games that have lots of small pieces. We have had several ride-on toys in our home the past few years, but nothing says you’ve become a “big boy” like being able to propel yourself standing up on your own scooter.

The YGlider is a 3 wheeled scooter, originally from the UK, sold exclusively at Toys “R” Us. It is literally put together in seconds out of the box by snapping the aluminum pole into the base. The base is wide, perfect for young kids learning to develop their balance. What I love about the product is the steering abilities. Given the large urethene caster wheels, it is able to handle leaves and bumps in terrain with ease. It is not designed to go off-roading over rocks and sticks, but it’s perfect for the 2-5 year old age group who are maneuvering around the park or on the sidewalk with supervision.

The handlebar is removable which is great for travel. In general the scooter is lightweight and easy for my son to pick up and right, if he has lost his balance and tipped over. The steering is really intuitive. Instead of needing to turn the wheel, which I’ve seen ultimately end up in a lot of spills over the years, this handlebar is lightly shifted from left to right to turn the scooter. Though Gavin preferred to drift frequently to the left the first few times he tried it, he quickly figured out how to propel it straight after some practice. The scooter retails for about $59.99 and is available in blue, green, purple, and pink. Please make sure to supervise your children with these types of ride-on toys, and by all means, make sure to purchase a bike helmet for your child’s safety if they should fall.

  • So cute-is that dying snow I see in the background!? Be sure to take lots of pictures, it is true what you hear all older people say. Enjoy it now, it will be over sooner than you think.
My "baby" just got his drivers license last month! It was yesterday I was the center of his world & the one he ran to with every little problem. They truly grow-up too fast!
