Ever since Gavin was 10 months old, he has been eating yogurt either with a spoon, or through fruit smoothies. It’s been a fantastic way for him to try different types of fruits, and it’s a portable snack that’s easy to pack in his daycare lunchbox. Since we became loyal Chobani Champions fans years ago through a taste-test at our local warehouse store, I have not been able to find any other yogurt brand that comes close to offering the same amount of protein in one snack.
During growth spurts, Gavin has requested yogurt at almost every meal. At the supermarket, I could potentially spend $10 a week on yogurt (4 – 4 packs, 3.5 ounces per cup), just for him. Vanilla chocolate chunk has been his go-to favorite, but with adding Kashi Go-Lean Crunch granola cereal and a few Craisins, I can pretty much get him to eat any flavor.
Though yogurt is an easy snack to pack, because it doesn’t need prep-work, with the small size of children’s lunch boxes, and while trying to be more green and using re-usable plastic containers for other snacks, the cups were sometimes difficult to fit inside. Gavin loved the concept of the yogurt tubes, but until now, I refused to buy other brands because they had far to much sugar, and very little protein. Well, ask and you shall receive. Recently, Chobani Champions showed up in our supermarket in plastic squeeze tubes (2.25 ounces, 8 tubes per box), along with new flavors that include cherry, blueberry, strawberry banana, and strawberry. The tubes include 5 grams of protein and 8 grams of sugar, as compared to the cups that have 10 grams of protein and 14 grams of sugar, given the additional ounce in the cups.
In addition to the blueberry and strawberry yogurt tubes, Chobani sent us a package featuring a new adult indulgence, Chobani Bites. We tried the raspberry with dark chocolate chips and coffee with dark chocolate chips, and they are a delicious gluten free snack, with only 100 calories, 1 gram of fat, 8 grams of protein and 12 grams of sugar. If you ask me, they make an amazing dessert alternative.
