MegaBloks Fire Truck Finn (Giveaway)

@MegaBloksDisclosure: I was provided the MegaBloks Fire Truck Finn toy free, to facilitate this review. Any opinions are my own.

Ever since Gavin was 8 months old and crawling, he’s been pushing, crashing, loading and unloading Mega Bloks dump trucks, school buses and fire trucks all over our living room. His absolute favorite truck of all time is the MegaBloks semi-truck car carrier I bought at a yard sale for $3.

Over the years we’ve reviewed several MegaBloks ride-on toys and small vehicles from the First Builders line. Each and every one of them has proven to be fun and extremely durable for younger children because they do not include small parts or pieces that can be broken. All MegaBloks toddler and preschool products are easy to clean using only disinfectant wipes or a baby wipe, in a pinch each one of them has made a nice addition to either the bathtub or the sandbox. We’ve never had any issues with cracking or fading, so they are easily passed on from one sibling to the next and great long-term investments for daycares and preschools.

Fire Truck Finn is the newest vehicle in the First Builders line, which is geared for young children ages 1-5. Fire Truck Finn comes with 13 blocks that are stored inside, plus the FireTruck Finn character. There is a steering wheel on the top of the car, making it easier for children to maneuver it when steering using their hands, while they can also push it from behind when walking or crawling. The ladder on top of the truck includes a pretend fire hose, but it also lifts and swivels for pretend play.

At almost 4-years-old, Gavin played with Finn for a few minutes, then abruptly stated we should give this to another child to play with.  Now that he’s older I’ll be honest, he generally prefers more advanced trucks and cars that are die-cast with some moving parts like cranks and doors that open/close. His play is generally not very complicated, I find cars in “traffic” in pile-ups and long lines everywhere in our home. He also loves pretending they are racing back and forth. At home, he hasn’t yet developed elaborate play schemes yet. When he said that, I immediately sat down with him and we role played creating buildings out of blocks, and fighting the fires from the truck with some great sound effects with the pretend water house.  He loved the idea of that concept and now Finn has found a home as an accessory to his standard rescue brigade. Though this toy is recommended for kids ages 1-5, I think that children 1-3 will most likely get the most play value from it. If you are purchasing a gift for a child in that age range, it’s easy for young children to maneuver and has the ability to grow with a child’s imagination over time.
