Plug-In Air Fresheners from Air Wick
I’ve really never been one to use plug-in air fresheners or honestly really any air fresheners or scented candles post-having kids at all. I was worried about Gavin burning himself on a candle or me being so tired I’d forget to blow it out. If I used any scented fresheners, it was generally some form of aerosol antibacterial spray.
I did away with the diaper pail years ago, because I felt like it just harbored awful stinkiness in one spot, so we resorted to throwing poopy diapers in our kitchen trash. However, when you have a child and are putting smelly diapers in the regular trash, or are a busy full-time working family and forget you put old leftovers in the trash, then don’t take the trash out, many times I’ve walked in the door at the end of the day and it smells so bad it’s like walking into a brick wall. I’d finally take the trash out, then would reach for the aerosol spray, which I would spray in and around the trash can. The stink was gone until the entire process repeated itself days later, because I never seemed to learn my lesson and plan ahead.
Air Wick has released a new line of air fresheners where new, limited edition fragrances are part of their National Park Collection inspired by places like the Grand Canyon, American Samoa, Denali, Virgin Islands, Hawaii Kaloko-Honokohau, and the Gulf Islands. These products include Reed Diffusers, Scented Oils, Auto Spray Refills, and Scented Candles. Though I’ve only ever been the the Virgin Islands, I can’t actually vouch for whether these scents actually smell like the areas they were designed from, but what I can tell you is that either way they smell great.
We have been testing the scented oil plug-in air freshener from Air Wick, currently with the Grand Canyon scent. We placed it in our half bathroom, which is adjacent to the door where we enter into our kitchen. I should know by now, but I think I’ve subconsciously grown accustomed to not having air fresheners because when I open the door it actually amazes me that it smells good when we get home every day. We’ve had it plugged in for about 2 weeks and it’s only half gone. It does worry me a little bit that the back of the plug-in device does stay warm, so I haven’t decided whether I’ll continue to keep it plugged in 100% of the time when we aren’t home. I do feel though like at least we are being pro-active and there is a noticeable change in our home because of it.
What are your go-to strategies for eliminating smelly odors in your home besides actually being responsible enough to take the trash out right away?
