New Elefun Game

You may have in your game closet, the original Elefun game from Hasbro. You know the one, with the elephant with the long plastic snout that when turned on makes little vinyl butterflies fly all around your living room, while you stand their holding a net trying to catch them? I have been playing the original Elefun game with kids for almost a decade. It’s the hardest game in the universe to coordinate landing a butterfly in the net, but kids always love to play, no matter how  much it challenges them.

This year, Elefun and Friends has made his new debut in a different game called Elefun Snackin Safari. Kids hold these cute elephant handles with long springy noses that have a suction cup on the end. Different cards are placed on the floor and they race to get the elephant’s nose to suction cup to a card that corresponds to their team color, green or orange. The game is recommended for kids ages 3 and up. The concept of the game is simple and easy to follow, getting enough coordination and timing for those silly cards to attach to the suction cup, is still challenging for many kids, but guess what, they don’t seem to mind and love the quick, action based game play, each week asking if they can play it again, over and over.

Here are some of the ways I modified the game to make it less challenging…

Lock the snout with the suction cup in place and spread the cards upside down on the floor or even on a low table, then while playing against the other player, “snack” up the card and see if you were able to make a match, once they get the hang of the game, then unlock the snout and see if their coordination improves

– No matter how, when or where you play, moisten the suction cup to make the cards stick easier

Hasbro provided this game free to facilitate this review. Any opinions are my own.
