Boom Boom Balloon Review
Disclosure: I received a sample of Boom Boom Balloon, a silly balloon popping game from Spinmaster Games to facilitate this review. Any opinions are my own.
Boom Boom Balloon is one of the simplest family games I’ve ever played. Some of the kids at school were visibly excited but anxious playing it for the first time. Though I think most kids love balloons, there are many whom I’ve met who have demonstrated panic over the idea that their balloon could pop because they don’t like the unpredictability and unexpected sound.
Within seconds the plastic game stand for Boom Boom Balloon was assembled. The directions state to use a balloon pump to blow up the balloon, but I blew the balloon up myself. Certainly, if you are supervising children playing, then a balloon pump is an excellent idea. The only trick is that the balloon has to be blown up while it’s inside the stand. Many children can’t tie ballooons with their fingers, and a great feature of this game is that the balloon doesn’t even need to be tied, it’s easily looped around a small opening under neath the balloon. Plastic rods are inserted into the stand and pushed in towards the balloon. Players roll a dice, then push any rod(s) they choose to equal the number they rolled.
During the times we played, we counted at least almost 20 times the rods were pushed towards the balloon before it eventually popped. One time I got my camera to take a picture and the balloon randomly popped while I was taking the picture!
Boom Boom Balloon is a simple game that doesn’t require the ability to read, which is a great feature for families with multiple children who enjoy playing games together.
The game is recommended for players ages 8 and up. Children in that age group will be able to pump up the balloons and set it up. If you are supervising younger children and setting the game up for them, there isn’t a lot of skill required to push the rods towards the balloon, so it will certainly provide entertainment for all ages, providing that children are properly supervised. Balloons are a fun item to play with, but they can be dangerous if small pieces are ingested by young children, so make sure that all popped balloon pieces end up appropriately in the trash can when the game is finished.
