Where’s Walrus?

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I’ve been struggling with the idea of whether this is a gift giving holiday or not. It seems that no matter what as parents we decide, there will be friends and family members in our lives that turn these little holidays into these types of gift giving events. So, if you are one of those people who prefers to give a gift from the heart to a loved one on Valentine’s Day, why not make it a book?

Where’s Walrus? by Stephen Savage is a brand new, hardcover book by Scholastic.  In this book, the story is told only through illustrations! Walrus escapes from his small tank at the Zoo and is chased by the zookeeper all around the city where he tries to humorously hide and disguise himself in all sorts of unlikely places!

How many of you remember those create your own adventure books? Well these types of illustrative children’s stories remind me of those because though there is a general story, it lets both children and their parents marry their sense of imagination to create their own individual, meaningful adventures. These book span age groups, allowing siblings of different abilities to explore books together while leaving open the world for individual interpretation. Having worked with children, many of whom struggle with reading, I believe these illustrative books allow children the ability to enjoy books without having to worry about sounding out the letters on the page and reading “the right way.” Where’s Walrus? is a fantastic story where in the end, Walrus gives us all the courage to brave the big world and dare to be different!

Scholastic is providing 3 different lucky readers with free copies of Where’s Walrus? !!!
