It seems weird to talk about technology and food in the same sentence, but using a unique process developed by WikiFoods, Inc. frozen yogurt is encased in an organic, edible skin made from fruit called WikiPearl technology.
This innovative idea protects the frozen yogurt from dripping. Even though the yogurt could “melt” inside, these yogurt pearls can be held without being damaged! Though the stores will originally sell the Yogurt Pearls in a small, biodegradable cellulose bag, the goal is for consumers to buy them by providing their own re-usable containers (egg cartons and shopping bags). This in turn has created a sustainable solution that eliminates the need for packaging and utensils.
Today I was one of the first people to ever sample Yogurt Pearls. I was given a few varieties, peach and vanilla, strawberry and vanilla, banana and vanilla and coconut and chocolate.
While Gavin and my husband didn’t have a chance to try them because I ate ALL of them before I made it home, snacks like this are certainly a fun option for kids given their ability to be transported in their hands, with little mess. It could be a fantastic way for picky eaters to consume organic fruits and yogurt, given that it looks and tastes a lot like ice cream. There are 25 calories, 4 grams of sugar per Yogurt pearl.
Here’s a video that describes the process, you’ve got to see it to believe it, it’s pretty revolutionary.
I was provided with a sampling of Stonyfield Yogurt Pearls. I did not receive any additional compensation for this post. Any opinions are my own.
