With each age, the holiday’s become magically different, every single year. As Santa’s little helpers we run around during the holiday season, buying up all sorts of new Christmas toys and books, doing anything we can, sometimes even resorting to bribery to make sure the kid’s stay on the nice list and off the naughty one!
As children get older, they are smarter and more intuitive. As parents we field even more challenging, logistical questions about Santa, the North Pole, Elves and Reindeers. Is it me or am I the only one who never seems to feel like I have a good answer or know what the right one is? I’ve learned to rely on all sorts of books and videos, to not only make sure Gavin behaves, but to find some answers to make sure his unique questions are answered in order to preserve his faith a little longer.
While Gavin’s smile here does not necessarily show it, he’s 8 and he’s skeptical. Its already been a topic of discussion in the 2nd grade lunch room. How quickly we are reminded about how magical it truly is to believe in Santa, especially when they reach an age when as a parent you realize that today could be the last day they truly believe. It really makes me wish I had downloaded all the personalized Portable North Pole videos we created when he was younger.
What is Portable North Pole?
Portable North Pole is a website and app, where anyone can create a personalized phone call and video message from Santa and the team at the North Pole. Some videos and features are free and others are a minimal cost of $5. For $13.99 per season, there is access to premium videos, unlimited calls, downloadable video and bedtime stories as part of the Magic Pass subscription. Keep reading and check out some great discount codes!
Gavin has always liked to flirt with the naughty list, and in past years these personalized videos from Santa got him back on track every single time. Sadly I never downloaded them and in instances like this, I would pay anything to have those memories back.

We always read the book titled “The Sparkle Box” and we fill the box up every year and read the notes from our Sparkle box on Christmas morning.
I love this! I’ll have to look up that book!
We start reading all the Christmas books we collected during the year.(we save them all year for this)
We have an elf on the shelf named Bob that has become my grandchildren’s favorite tradition.
We make homemade ornaments and decorate the tree while having egg nog.
Our favorite tradition is putting up the tree as a family. Everyone helps with the ornaments.
we put up a big D56 Christmas village that’s so beautiful when all lit up
actually we didn’t have a tradition for counting down to Christmas
When my kids were little we always purchased toys for them to donate to a local charity.
My family share the family traditions of the Hank Williams’ family. Over and over.
My daughter and I like to craft ornaments for the Christmas tree and countdown on our advent calendar.
I’ll have to check out the book. It looks super cute for Christmas.
We enjoy driving around looking at christmas lights.
We have a present to open on Christmas Eve that includes treats and Pjs . It is always fun
Christmas Eve is spent with family and friends early in the day. We play outdoor games like flag football, croquet, frisbee and other fun activities; dinner starts with oyster stew and then we have lots of food as everyone brings great dishes from main courses to desserts – no one goes away hungry. We work together to clean up and then head to midnight mass. Getting home on Christmas day, we start a very early breakfast and each kid gets to open one gift before going to bed for a good nights sleep.
Wow, what a wonderful day spent with family!
we enjoy Christmas eve at church and then when we get home we open a present before going to bed and waiting for Christmas to arrive.
I create a kid’s corner every year. It’s filled with Christmas books, Christmas toys, a Christmas rug, and more. It’s an area where they can play, read, and listen to Christmas music. They look forward to it. My youngest will outgrow the corner just in time for our granddaughter (and future grandkids) to be old enough to enjoy it!
We have a big family dinner on Christmas Eve with all of our family get together and exchange gifts. And when we get home we let ours kids open up 1 gift early.
My family and I love to watch Christmas movies, drink hot chocolate. Then put our tree up, together! 🙂
We have an advent calendar we use to count down the days, and we have church related activities every weekend in December. A Walk Through Bethlehem, The Living Christmas Tree, and other programs that remind us of the reason for the season.
Our favorite tradition is our countdown to Christmas snowman we have.
